Jakarta – Prabowo Subianto, Minister of Defense and president-elect, warmly welcomed the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to the Ministry of Defense (Kemhan) office in Jakarta on Thursday, April 18.
Accompanied by his delegation, Wang Yi arrived at around 10:58 AM WIB. Prabowo welcomed him in front of the Kemhan building, and the two proceeded to shake hands before entering the building.
Expressing his gratitude for the warm reception, Prabowo stated, “It is a great honor for me today to receive him. Thank you for such a warm welcome; I was well received in Beijing a few weeks ago.”
Prior to meeting with Wang Yi in Jakarta, Prabowo had held discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang, and Chinese Minister of Defense China Dong Jun during an official visit to Beijing in early April 2024.
The private meeting between Prabowo and Wang Yi focused on various areas of defense cooperation, including education, joint training, and the defense industry.
Indonesia and China have a strong partnership with numerous bilateral collaborations, particularly in the defense sector where educational and training cooperation has been ongoing since the 1970s.
This educational exchange continues till date, with Indonesian defense personnel pursuing education in China and Chinese soldiers attending military education in Indonesia.
Expressing his appreciation for the warm reception, Wang Yi also congratulated Prabowo on his victory in the 2024 presidential election.
Wang Yi commended Prabowo, saying, “Allow me to congratulate Your Excellency on being elected as the president of the Republic of Indonesia with the highest vote count in the history of Indonesia’s elections.”
While acknowledging the significant responsibility of leading a nation, Wang Yi expressed confidence in Indonesia’s progress under Prabowo’s leadership.
Wang Yi stated, “I am confident Your Excellency will shoulder the significant task of leading Indonesia towards national development and resurgence, ushering in an even brighter future under your leadership.”
