Prabowo Subianto Meets with Singapore’s New Prime Minister, Extends Congratulations and Talks Defense Collaboration

Singapore— The newly elected President for the term 2024-2029, Prabowo Subianto, held a meeting with Singapore’s new Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the Istana in Singapore on Saturday (1/6).

Prabowo arrived at the Istana wearing a gray suit and black peci, and was warmly greeted by Wong.

“Good morning, Mr. President-elect,” Lawrence Wong greeted Prabowo.

“How are you? Thank you very much. Once again, congratulations!” Prabowo said to Lawrence Wong.

It is known that Wong was recently appointed as the Prime Minister of Singapore, succeeding Lee Hsien Loong, who resigned after serving for two decades.

“Thank you, it’s nice to see you again, Prabowo,” Wong said, inviting Prabowo inside the Istana.

During the meeting, Prabowo also expressed his gratitude and warm thanks for Wong’s hospitality towards him and the Indonesian delegation at the Opening Reception of the 21st Edition of the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue 2024 held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore on Friday (31/5).

“Thank you for the warm welcome and hospitality for me and the Indonesian delegation,” Prabowo said.

Furthermore, as the defense minister, Prabowo expressed his highest appreciation for the leadership and strong communication between Indonesia and Singapore up to this point.

“Indonesia is dedicated to enhancing bilateral relations with Singapore. The Indonesian Ministry of Defense is prepared to strengthen defense cooperation, especially following the implementation of the Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA), which includes joint training, maritime security, and educational exchange programs,” Prabowo stated.

Later at the Shangri-La Dialogue 2024, Prabowo is scheduled to deliver a special address at the forum on Saturday afternoon (1/6). Prabowo’s speech will be moderated by the Executive Chairman of the IISS, John Chipman.
