Prabowo Subianto Reunites with Longtime Friend Anwar Ibrahim, Invites Him to His Inauguration

Indonesian Defense Minister and President-elect for 2024-2029, Prabowo Subianto, met with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Saturday, September 7 to discuss enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries. The two leaders, who share a long-standing friendship, expressed their commitment to strengthening ongoing cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia.

Prior to meeting with Anwar, Prabowo also had a meeting with the King of Malaysia, Sultan Ibrahim. At the meeting with Anwar, Prabowo reiterated Indonesia’s dedication to fostering a harmonious and mutually beneficial defense relationship with Malaysia.

Anwar was invited by Prabowo to attend his presidential inauguration in October in Jakarta. The Malaysian Prime Minister expressed his joy at reuniting with his longtime friend and congratulated Prabowo on his election as Indonesia’s next president.

On his official Instagram account, @anwaribrahim_my, Anwar wrote, “Meeting my close friend, Indonesia’s President-elect Prabowo Subianto. I am honored to accept his invitation to the Indonesian presidential inauguration on October 20, 2024, in Jakarta.”

Anwar also reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and Malaysia, as well as reinforcing regional cooperation within ASEAN. (RR)
