Jakarta — President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) participated in the 79th anniversary celebration of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) at Monas, Jakarta, on Saturday (October 5), accompanied by various officials, including Defense Minister and President-elect Prabowo Subianto.
Jokowi highlighted the significant turnout of thousands of citizens at the event as a reflection of the strong bond between the TNI and the public. He emphasized that the unity between the military and the people is a crucial strength of Indonesia.
“This 79th anniversary of the TNI demonstrates the close relationship between the TNI and the people, which is a major power and a significant strength of our nation—the unity of the TNI and the people,” stated Jokowi following the TNI anniversary ceremony.
Although acknowledging the challenges that still exist, Jokowi commended the ongoing improvements within the TNI.
“There are still areas that require evaluation and enhancement, but I observe positive progress,” he remarked.
The public event attracted residents from across Jabodetabek, who gathered at Monas early in the morning. The crowd enjoyed the grand parade featuring 100,000 personnel and over 1,000 defense vehicles (alutsista).
The enthusiasm of the crowd was evident, especially upon spotting President-elect Prabowo Subianto, who was also present. Many eagerly rushed to greet him, shake hands, and capture the moment with the incoming president following his attendance at the TNI’s annual celebration. (RR)
