President Prabowo Subianto has high hopes for Indonesia to achieve net-zero carbon emissions as one of the pioneering countries in this effort. He underlined Indonesia’s capability in generating energy efficiently and reducing logistic costs during a video conference discussing renewable energy development and oil production expansion in East Java. The president stressed the importance of energy independence in realizing Indonesia’s vision of national sovereignty, revealing plans for 55 new renewable energy projects, including geothermal power plants, to offer clean and reliable energy throughout the archipelago.
Prabowo commended the collaborative efforts of government ministries, regulatory bodies, and energy companies like Medco Energi and ExxonMobil in supporting Indonesia’s energy transition. Despite acknowledging the abundance of oil and gas reserves in the country, he highlighted the significance of renewable energy, especially solar power, in ensuring energy self-sufficiency for communities nationwide. The president expressed optimism for Indonesia’s future, seeing solar energy as a source of hope for rural areas, districts, and remote islands, paving the way for a brighter and more sustainable tomorrow.
