Importance of Physical Activity Spaces in Preventing Child Addiction

Deputy Minister for Population and Family Development, Ratu Ayu Isyana Bagoes Oka, emphasized the importance of parents staying involved in their children’s interests and engaging in physical activities together to prevent addiction to games and gadgets. She shared this message during a discussion on family development organized by the Presidential Communication Office and Gempita in Jakarta. Isyana highlighted the need for parents to keep up with current online trends and applications to connect with their children effectively. Children are prone to seeking instant gratification through social media scrolling and online gaming, which can lead to addiction. To combat this, Isyana and Veronica Tan, Deputy Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, promote engaging in sports and outdoor activities to obtain dopamine naturally and keep children away from excessive screen time. Tan also introduced the Ruang Bersama Indonesia program, aiming to provide safe and creative spaces for women, children, and communities to empower, learn, and play together. Through initiatives like this, they hope to encourage children to move away from gadget addiction and engage more in traditional games and sports.
