Ducati’s satellite MotoGP structure is expected to remain intact beyond 2026, despite uncertainties surrounding Gresini Racing’s future with the Italian marque. The Brazilian Grand Prix weekend saw discussions in the paddock about Ducati’s satellite team lineup for the 2027 regulations cycle. VR46 has a long-term agreement, but Gresini’s position is under scrutiny due to recent rider market developments.
VR46 has a five-year deal with Ducati spanning 2025-2026 with an automatic extension to 2029 unless either party opts out. While VR46 intends to stick with Ducati, tensions arose when Fermin Aldeguer, associated with Gresini, was moved to VR46 for the next season. Nadia Padovani, the Gresini boss, was upset by this decision, casting doubt on the team’s relationship with Ducati.
Despite rumors of Gresini’s negotiations with Honda, which were later denied, Ducati’s sporting director Mauro Grassilli met with Padovani and Gresini team manager Michele Masini in Goiania. Grassilli hinted that everything should remain unaffected, with VR46 and Gressini continuing as Ducati’s satellite teams.
The rider lineup is expected to change, with Pedro Acosta’s potential move to the factory squad and further adjustments following Aldeguer’s transfer to VR46. Ducati is looking to revise its model for rider salaries, with partner teams likely to share the financial burden in the future. While negotiations are ongoing, it is anticipated that Ducati and Gresini will reach an agreement soon.
Ducati’s team boss, Davide Tardozzi, expressed his desire to retain Gresini in the 2027 lineup, emphasizing the team’s excellence and the mutual interest in continuing their partnership. Efforts are being made to ensure a smooth transition and secure Gresini’s presence in Ducati’s future plans.
