Professor Hikmahanto Juwana, an expert in International Relations (IR), commended the Indonesian government’s proactive efforts to address the emergency situation in Gaza, Palestine. Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto’s decisive actions were particularly lauded, positioning Indonesia as a leading provider of concrete assistance to Gaza.
During the High-Level Emergency Response Summit for Gaza in Amman, Jordan, Prabowo’s resolute speech stood out among those of other participating countries. Hikmahanto noted that Indonesia’s approach was the most substantial and courageous, emphasizing that Indonesia is not merely making empty promises but backing them up with tangible action.
The government’s plan to accommodate 1,000 patients and 1,000 students from Gaza for medical treatment and education in Indonesia demonstrates a proactive stance that Hikmahanto believes may unsettle the United States and Israel. He expressed confidence that Indonesia’s bold actions could exert pressure on Israel and its allies to halt the ongoing atrocities in Gaza.
In light of the perceived ineffectiveness of the United Nations in addressing Israel’s actions, Hikmahanto underscored the importance of international solidarity in stopping the violence. He urged other countries to follow Indonesia’s lead in taking concrete steps to mitigate the crisis in Gaza.
Hikmahanto called for a humanitarian coalition to address the situation, emphasizing the need for a collective effort grounded in principles of humanity. He expressed confidence that a unified stance against Israel’s actions, guided by humanitarian values, would garner widespread support and bring about meaningful change.
