Port Moresby – Indonesian Defense Minister and President-elect Prabowo Subianto visited Papua New Guinea and met with Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape on Wednesday (21/8).

During the meeting, Prabowo and Marape held discussions on various issues, including bilateral and international matters of mutual interest, as well as ways to strengthen the long-standing strategic partnership between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

“There is synergy between us (Indonesia and Papua New Guinea). We complement each other, and there are opportunities for cooperation in food production, agriculture, fisheries, mining, minerals, and tourism. Indonesia is looking forward to enhancing collaboration with Papua New Guinea,” explained Prabowo.

In the field of education, Prabowo offered Papua New Guinean youths the chance to study at the Indonesian Defense University (Unhan). “We have opened all military schools and institutions. If you wish to send your young generation, we welcome the opportunity,” he added.

Marape expressed his gratitude for Prabowo’s efforts in promoting peace and reconciliation, as well as continuing President Joko Widodo’s initiatives.

He also highlighted the significant improvement in the relationship between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, leading to positive outcomes and new possibilities for cooperation.
