President Prabowo Subianto recently unveiled an ambitious plan to expand the Free Nutritious Meal Program (Makan Bergizi Gratis / MBG) to reach 82.9 million children throughout Indonesia by the end of 2025. During the 27th anniversary event of the National Awakening Party (PKB), he emphasized the significance of this initiative as a national priority and urgent matter.
Sharing a poignant experience from his visit to Central Java, Prabowo described the overwhelming demand for the program. Witnessing the enthusiasm of schoolchildren and locals along his route, he recounted their heartfelt plea for nutritious meals. This encounter motivated him to accelerate the program implementation, setting a goal of reaching 20 million children by mid-August.
Expressing his determination to achieve the target, Prabowo highlighted the importance of proper resource management and workforce training. He revealed the intention to further increase the number of beneficiaries, aiming to reach 82.9 million children by December 2025.
Acknowledging the global interest in Indonesia’s efforts, the President mentioned that other nations are closely monitoring the program’s progress. He noted how Indonesia’s rapid expansion of the initiative contrasts with the years taken by other countries to achieve similar milestones.
Despite his optimistic outlook, Prabowo stressed the need for tangible results to validate their commitment. He expressed readiness to be held accountable for his promises, suggesting a follow-up assessment in December 2025 or January.
The Free Nutritious Meal Program aligns with Prabowo’s broader vision to address child hunger, malnutrition, and educational disparities. By ensuring access to nutritious meals for every child, regardless of background, the initiative aims to support their overall well-being and academic success.
