Darius Rucker, a renowned country singer and frontman of Hootie & the Blowfish, has recently joined the ownership group of Legacy Motor Club, a two-car Toyota team in NASCAR. This ownership group already includes seven-time NASCAR Cup champion Jimmie Johnson and Knighthead Capital Management. Richard Petty, a NASCAR legend who was the previous owner of the team, now serves as a team ambassador. Rucker expressed his long-standing love for NASCAR on the Dan Patrick Show and highlighted his passion for the sport. Despite being a three-time GRAMMY award winner and receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Rucker is excited to be part of the NASCAR world.
Currently, Legacy Motor Club fields the No. 42 and No. 43 cars driven by John Hunter Nemechek and Erik Jones, respectively. They have plans to expand to a third full-time entry by 2026. While the team currently ranks 24th and 25th in driver points, they have not visited Victory Lane since their days as Petty GMS Motorsports. Their last win was in the 2022 Southern 500 with Jones behind the wheel. Despite this, Legacy has achieved two top-ten finishes this year, both courtesy of Jones.
Looking ahead, Legacy Motor Club aims to strengthen its presence in NASCAR and enhance its performance. The addition of Darius Rucker to the ownership group brings a unique perspective and enthusiasm to the team. With dedicated drivers, strategic planning, and a growing fan base, the future looks promising for Legacy Motor Club in NASCAR.
