Doriane Pin, the 2025 F1 Academy champion, recently shared how seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton has been a crucial influence on her racing career. In a candid discussion on the Beyond The Grid podcast, Pin reminisced about admiring Hamilton from a young age and how he inspired her to pursue a career in Formula 1. She fondly recalled the early memories of watching Hamilton compete for titles, especially during his battles with Nico Rosberg while driving for Mercedes.
Transitioning from being a lifelong fan to working with Hamilton at Mercedes was initially overwhelming for Pin. She described the experience of having her childhood hero witness her progress through the F1 Academy as surreal. Despite the awe-inspiring situation, Pin valued the advice and support she received from Hamilton, emphasizing their discussions and the ease of communication that existed between them.
Pin’s journey in motorsport took a definitive turn when she joined the Mercedes junior programme in 2024 and participated in an all-female racing series. With the backing of the Brackley-based team, the 22-year-old racer clinched the championship title in her second year. Following her success, Pin signed with Mercedes as a development driver, expressing her gratitude for the unwavering support and camaraderie she has experienced within the team.
As she continues to learn and grow within the Mercedes family, Pin emphasized the collaborative and friendly atmosphere that permeates the team. She acknowledged the opportunity to work with incredible individuals and the pride she feels in representing Mercedes both on and off the track. Throughout her journey, Pin remains grateful for the chance to interact with Hamilton and absorb valuable advice from one of the sport’s legends.
